ANSWERS

1.) The battery on my handheld Pocket PC is dead and now the software is gone. What do I do to fix the battery problem and then reload the software?

The first thing you need to do is replace the "backup battery" on the unit (if yours has one, if it does not then just recharge your unit by plugging it in). The battery location varies slightly from unit to unit, so check with the User Manual that came with your particular unit for the correct location and procedure. Most handheld PCs use a Lithium, 3-volt, coin cell-type battery, model number CR2032 (refer to your Pocket PC user manual for the correct procedure for replacing the battery for your model). You can purchase these at most electronics or battery stores. After the battery is replaced and you have fully recharged the unit you can move on to the software recovery procedure.

Recover AbleLink Pocket PC Programs:

Please note:   The different models of Pocket PCs have different types of removable storage cards (compact flash or secure data cards), and may be named differently in the file directory, as well. The various names include: CF Card; Storage Card; and SD Card. We will use the term Storage Card in these instructions, but it is meant to reference whichever is appropriate for your unit.
  1. Be sure the storage card that came with your unit is securely installed into its slot in the unit. Then, using the touch screen, tap on the "Start" bar (top left) and then tap on "Programs."

  2. Next, from the "Programs" area, tap "File Explorer."

  3. On the grey bar across the top navigate to "My Device," then tap on "Storage Card."

  4. In the list under "Storage Card," there are files named "XXRecovery." If you have more than one AbleLink program there will be more than one "Recovery" file listed (i.e., PCRecovery, VARecovery). Tap on one of the recovery files.

  5. When the dialog box appears asking if you wish to replace certain files, select "Yes to all."

  6. When the program is finished running and reinstalling, the screen will go back to the Storage Card (as in Step 4). The recovery file will no longer be visible. Tap on any other XXRecovery files in succession (following Steps 4 and 5) until there are no further programs to be recovered.
At this time you are finished reinstalling your programs. You can immediately begin using the unit. Look below for instructions on reprogramming the buttons of your unit.

Software versions prior to Pocket Coach/Visual Assistant 4.0 have the capability of locking out, or redirecting, the physical buttons and controls on the front and side of the Pocket PC to prevent end users from accidentally launching undesired programs and getting lost in the Windows Pocket PC environment. Pocket Coach/Visual Assistant version 4.0, as well as Pocket Discovery Desktop/Schedule Assistant version 2.0 automatically redirect the unit's buttons when the programs are launched. In the case of a power loss in the older software version, or if you wish to use your device as a dedicated unit for any versions, you will need to follow the instructions below to redirect the buttons and controls.

Redirect Unit Buttons and Controls:

  1. Using the touchscreen, tap on Start (in the upper left corner) and then on Settings.

  2. On the Settings menu, tap Buttons. The interface for assigning programs to buttons is shown:

  3. Do NOT reassign the Record button. The Record button is assigned to different locations for different PCs. The Buttons interface chart under Assignment shows where the Record button resides on your unit.

  4. Highlight Button 1 in the list. Then click the drop down arrow under Button assignment: and select PC.

  5. Repeat Step 3, assigning each button sequentially (i.e., PC1, PC2, etc.) with the exception of the Record button.

  6. Click on OK in the upper right corner when done.
Note: For Visual Assistant the button assignments will be to VA, VA1, VA2, VA3, and VA4.

6.) I have purchased the "Multi-user" version of Voyager Suite, what are the restrictions on how many people and machines that I can use?

The multi-user edition entitles the user to a single desktop computer license. The software itself allows for multiple users to each login to their own customized environment on a single computer. The number of users on the single computer is unlimited. However, if your need is for the program to exist on multiple computers then you will need to purchase a separate license for each computer on which it is to be installed.
