AbleLink and SHIFT Announce Launch of SMART Travel Training System in Tennessee
In early 2022,AbleLink Smart Living TechnologiesandTech First SHIFTbegan discussions with
the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) regarding the
lack of real-world travel training experiences for people with cognitive disabilities. The resulting collaboration, the SMART Travel Training System, is a comprehensive educational curriculum designed to engage both “Trainers” (agency staff or family members who want to teach others) and “Travelers” (people with cognitive disabilities).
AbleLink Wins 2nd Place in U.S. DOT’s Inclusive Design Challenge
AbleLink Smart Living Technologies was awarded a $700,000 prize as the 2nd place winner in the U.S. DOT’s Inclusive Design Challenge. In a ceremony at U.S. DOT offices in Washington, DC, AbleLink was recognized along with the 1st place and 3rd place winners. AbleLink’s award-winning concept, the WayFinder Ride app, is designed to give people with cognitive disabilities access to driverless vehicles. This technology, expected to be deployed around the country within the next decade, will provide on-demand transportation for a population that has too often been left behind when new methods are invented.
